One of the primary methods for interacting with the set of sites, sectors and radios in your project is by Selecting them. When you make or change a selection, the properties of the selected items appear in the Properties Window. This window allows you to view and edit the properties of the selected items. When multiple items are selected, the properties window allows you to view or edit the properties of all selected items a the same time.

As well as viewing or editing properties, many operations in Overture work directly with the set of selected items. For example, the Site Planner module treats the set of selected sites as candidates when running the site planning algorithm.

Once you have selected the entities you are interested in you can then edit their parameters.

Making Selections

You can select sites, radios and sectors in several different ways:

Selecting From a Table

You can select sites, radios or sectors directly from their associated tables. You can select a single item by simply left-clicking on it. If you hold down Control, clicking on items will add or remove them from the current selection. You can also select a contiguous range of items by selecting the first, then holding down Shift and selecting the last item in the range.

Selecting From the Map

Clicking on a site marker in the map will select that site. If you want to select one or more sites in the same area, hold down Shift and drag the selection rectangle over the sites you wish to select:

Drag Selecting Sites

You can also select nearby sites, sectors and radios from the context menu by right clicking on the map:

Selecting Nearby Sites

You can find out more about the map here.

Selecting the Radios or Sectors of a Site

Overture manages the set of selected sites, radios and sectors separately. When you select a site, all the sectors and radios attached to the site are also selected; when you select a sector the site and any associated radios are also selected, and similarly for radios. However, only one set of selected items (sites, sectors or radios) can have the selection focus in the Properties Window at any one time.

You can change the selection focus from site to radio or sector by using the "Change Selection" buttons on the button bar:

Button Bar - Selected Site, Sector and Radios

To see the properties of the selected Radios, click on the Get Selected Radios Properties icon. To see the properties of the selected Sectors, click on the Get Selected Sectors Properties icon. To see the properties of the selected Sites, click on the Get Selected Sites Properties icon.

These buttons let you move the selection focus from site to sector or radio and visa-versa. This is useful if you want to view or edit sector or radio parameters of the selected sites.

Editing a Selection

You can edit the list of selected items from the appropriate Selection Editor window, which you can access directly from the View Menu. The selection editor for sites is show below:

Button Bar - Selected Site, Sector and Radios

Editing the entries of the table affects the selected items directly. To remove an element from the selection, highlight the relevant row and press Delete. You can add a new element to the selection by typing its name into any blank row; you can create new blank rows by clicking on the * button at the bottom of the table.

You can paste a list of entity names from the clipboard into the selection editor using Control+V from the keyboard. If you do this, Overture assumes that each entity name begins on a separate line.
