This tutorial shows you how to view your active map layers in
Google Earth.
Although you can
export map layers
for offline use with Google Earth, you can also use Overture to serve maps to Google
Earth directly. Note that this functionality requires that you have Google Earth
installed on the same computer as Overture.
To set up a connection, all's you need to do is click the
View Maps in Google Earth toolbar button, as highlighted below:
Google Earth will be launched if it's not already running. When it has loaded, you
will see a "Remote Viewer" entry has been added to the "Temporary Places" collection,
with an item for each active layer in your project. Click on a check boxes to view
the corresponding layer:
The layers you see in Google Earth are served up by Overture, and Overture must
be running for the connection to work.
You can also use this function to show your active map layers to a colleague on
your intranet. To do this, you first need to copy the connection link to the clipboard:
You can then paste this link into an email or IM client. This link will enable any
computer on the intranet with Google Earth installed to view your active map layers.
