Overture has a flexible and extensible system for applying Colors and Labels to the Site and Sector markers you see on the Map. This tutorial shows you how to modify the site and sector markers to show various aspects of your network.

We will start by assuming that the steps in the Tutorial have been followed. The resulting site and sector map layers look like this:

Sites with Default coloring, No Label; Sectors colored By Channel with No Label

The Site Markers Map has been colored using the colors associated with the Site, and the Sector Markers Map has been colored by the linked Radio's channel. We can verify this by looking at the Legends for the site and sector markers:

Changing The Coloring

We will now adjust the coloring of the Sector Markers Map. We can do this from the Maps subsection of the Start Page. Clicking on the Maps button will open the Maps subsection:

Start Page - Maps

Select the "Sector Markers" map fromthe pull-down list, and then click on the Properties button The Properties Button to display its properties:

Properties of the Sector Markers Map, with alternate Colorings displayed

The coloring of the sector markers is controlled by the Entity Coloring property. Click on this property and then select "Default Color" from the pull-down list. The map will now update with the new coloring:

Sites with Default coloring, No Label; Sectors with Default coloring with No Label

Change the coloring back to "Radio Channel" before moving on.

You can set the sector marker colorings to reflect various physical and electrical parameters of the sectors and radios in your project. The built-in Tutorial is technology neutral, but when you set up Overture up to use a particular technology, an appropriate set of coloring options are automatically to your project. These colorings allow you to visualize the various electronic parameters for the technology directly on the map.

You can change the colorings on the Site Markers Map in the exactly the same way.

If none of the built-in coloring options are quite right, it is easy to add and configure new ones. For more information, see the reference section on Entity Colorings.

Adding Labels

We will now add some labels to our sector map. No labels are displayed by default, but we can easily add some. To do this, we first need to locate the properties of the Sector Markers Map as above. Click on the Entity Labeling property to display the list of possibilities, and then select "Channel":

Properties of the Sector Markers map, with Labeling options shown

The map will update to show you the channel assigned to the Radios linked to each sector:

Sites with Default coloring, No Label; Sectors colored and labeled by Channel

You can change the labeling of the Site Markers Map in the exactly the same way.

As before, when you configure Overture for a specific technology a set of labeling options appropriate to that technology are automatically added to your project.

If none of the built-in labeling options are quite right, it is easy to add and configure new ones. For more information, see the reference section on Entity Labelings.
